Maternity Tights – Which Ones Actually Work? Here Are My Favorites
Finding maternity tights that actually fit well can be significantly harder than you think. During my pregnancy, I tested an unreasonable number of pairs, from cheap maternity tights to more expensive options, because I mostly wore dresses and skirts. It was simply the most comfortable for me.
Why Regular Tights Don't Work During Pregnancy
I initially thought I could just buy tights in a larger size, here's why that doesn't work:
- They slide down
- Roll up and sit under the belly, creating pressure
- There's a gap between the legs that irritates
Maternity tights, on the other hand, are designed to:
✔ follow the belly throughout the pregnancy ✔ stay up all day ✔ provide light support over the belly and lower back ✔ be comfortable even as you grow
What Should You Consider When Buying Maternity Tights?
Here are the most important points:
1. High and Flexible Waistband
The waistband should go over the entire belly and not stop halfway.
2. Stretchy and Breathable Material
You want soft comfort without them feeling too tight.
3. Correct Denier
✔ 20–40 denier → thinner, for parties and everyday wear ✔ 60–100 denier → perfect for autumn/winter ✔ 200 denier → warm during winter
4. Extra Support Panel
A plus if you want more relief (especially at the end of pregnancy).
5. Size According to Your Usual Size
Most brands adjust for a pregnant belly, you don't need to go up in size.
My Favorites - Best Maternity Tights
Why Lindex Maternity Tights Became My Favorites?
- They were shaped for a pregnant belly
- They had support under the belly, it almost felt like the belly was lifted a little at the end of the pregnancy
- They didn't slide down under the belly but stayed above it
- Didn't break after every other use
Cheap Maternity Tights
H&M's maternity tights were clearly a cheaper alternative and were okay. However, they broke more often than Lindex.
- Shaped for a pregnant belly
- Also sold in 20 denier - can feel nicer for festive occasions
